5 Years of Embevity: A Journey Through Embedded, FPGA and Hardware development
#Embevity, #5years, #EmbeddedDevelopment
Introduction:
Embevity has officially turned five years old. In the embedded world, that’s practically an entire era, just look at how many Zephyr releases have appeared in the meantime. In that time, we grew from a small firmware crew into a full‑stack engineering partner for embedded software, FPGA development, and hardware/PCB design.
We learned that process beats luck and expertise wins projects.
Let us take you through that journey, but mostly from the technical perspective.
Who we are – in one page
Since 2021, Embevity has been building production‑grade electronics and software for demanding industries.
Today, our core expertise includes:
- Embedded software development (Embedded Linux, Zephyr RTOS, nRF Connect SDK Buildroot, Yocto/OpenEmbedded, OpenWRT, Android, FreeRTOS, Keil RTX, uC )
- FPGA design (AMD/Xilinx, Microchip, Altera, Efinix, Lattice, VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog)
- Wireless technologies (BLE, Zigbee, UWB, LTE‑M, Sub‑GHz, Thread)
- Real-time systems and low-level firmware
- Digital signal and image processing
- Hardware and PCB design, validation and optimization
- End‑to‑end electronic product development
Together, they reflect how Embevity approaches engineering: pragmatically, systematically, and with production in mind.
From startup to high‑tech engineering partner – our first Big Challenges
1. FPGA Development for a Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) System
One of our earliest and most technologically complex challenges at that time was developing FPGA firmware for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), based on AMD/Xilinx technology.
This project involved:
- designing high‑performance FPGA pipelines,
- implementing deterministic digital signal processing,
- working with high‑speed interfaces,
- achieving ultra‑low jitter and minimal latency,
This experience laid the foundation for our FPGA engineering division, which later contributed to Embevity becoming an AMD Computing Partner.
2. Real-Time Maritime Positioning System (RTLS)
Another significant project was the development of a real-time positioning system for maritime industrial environments, based on UWB and VLF technology.
Our engineering work included:
- designing algorithms for accurate positioning in noisy RF environments,
- developing low-level firmware for measurement devices,
- optimizing proprietary radio protocols for reliability,
- integrating the system into industrial infrastructure,
- performing extensive field and environmental testing.
This project strengthened our reputation in RTLS engineering, wireless communication, and robust embedded system design.
Five years of Embevity – our milestones
2021 – Embevity is founded, focusing on embedded software development for electronic systems.
2023 – We join the Zephyr Ecosystem Vendor Program, strengthening our capabilities in Zephyr RTOS and Nordic Semiconductor projects.
2023 – 2025 – Our team grows to 28 engineers across embedded, FPGA, hardware and QA.
2024 – We become an AMD Embedded Partner, expanding our FPGA service portfolio.
2024 – We become an official Nordic Semiconductor Partner, enhancing development across the nRF52/nRF53/nRF91 families.
2025 – We join the Microchip Technology Partner Program, extending our experience with ARM Cortex‑M, PIC and custom hardware modules.
2025 – Our revenue nearly doubles compared to 2023; our customer base and R&D offerings grow significantly.
Our Goals for 2026
- Grow the team in embedded, FPGA and RF to accelerate R&D throughput.
- Complete ISO 9001 and keep raising our quality bar.
- Share more: technical articles, conference talks, and real‑world case studies.
- Keep contributing to ecosystems we well know (Zephyr, Nordic) and tools we rely on.
